Statement from California Common Cause Policy Advocate Phillip Ung

on FPPC finding FAIR violated Political Reform Act

In October, Common Cause filed a Fair Political Practice Commission complaint against the California Republican Party and the Fairness & Accountability in Redistricting PAC for not properly disclosing its major donors in compliance with the Political Reform Act. On November 9, 2011, the FPPC found FAIR violated the Act by not properly disclosing major donors in the time frame mandated by law. The complaint against the California Republican Party remains pending.

“We hope the proponents of this misguided referendum will take the FPPC’s violation seriously and comply with the law by disclosing all their special interests funders to the public. Voters deserve to know who is funding the referendum to overturn the Senate maps created through the voter-initiated redistricting process.”
