Statement from California Common Cause Phillip Ung on Fair Political Practices Commission approval of text message contribution regulations

Earlier today, the Fair Political Practices Commission unanimously approved regulations to allow for text message contributions to political campaigns. Below is a statement from Policy Advocate Phillip Ung:

"We are excited to see how this new program will be implemented. We expect this program to increase the amount of small donor contributions from everyday voters. California Common Cause believes small donor contributions from $5 to $100 are preferable to the corrupting influence of large special interest campaign contributions. We will work with the Commission to ensure the program is not gamed by those of the political establishment or used illegally. Campaigns and service providers should adopt strict recordkeeping procedures with transparency and disclosure at the forefront of their minds."
