At The National Level

Common Cause led successful efforts to eliminate gerrymandering by reforming the way California draws congressional and state legislative district lines. The passage of Proposition 11 in 2008 and Proposition 20 in 2010 ensured that voters will choose their elected officials instead of allowing elected officials to choose their voters.

Now Common Cause will lead the effort to expand this reform movement nationally. Common Cause will convene a gathering of 20-30 organizations committed to redistricting reform to finalize a concrete set of principles that will guide our efforts around the country. We will also strategize to determine how to most effectively collaborate in the states and support grassroots reform efforts.

Stay tuned for more information on the principles and how we will continue our redistricting efforts across the nation.
