Election Protection

During the past few election cycles, California Common Cause and Common Cause chapters across the country have teamed up with the nonpartisan Election Protection Coalition to push election preparedness issues before Election Day, and run a national election protection hotline for voters to call with any problems they encounter.

For the 2014 midterm election, we once again deployed our Election Protection efforts in California to ensure that voters have an equal opportunity to participate in the political process and are able to cast a ballot. Thanks to our supporters like you, we had 37 volunteers visit 184 poll sites in four counties. We also received 680 calls reporting problems at our Election Protection Hotline call center in Los Angeles. Of those calls, we were able to resolve 100% of them.

In the 2016 general election, we expanded our efforts, deploying hundreds of nonpartisan volunteers covering 325 precincts in Los Angeles County, 90 precincts in San Bernardino County, and 75 precincts in Orange County. Hotline volunteers in our L.A. call center fielded more than 3,600 calls.

Voter protection is at the core of what we aim to do - provide guidance, information and help to all Californians, regardless of who that voter is casting a ballot for.
