Common Cause > Take Action > Tell Corporations: Stick to Business
Tell Corporations to Stick to Business Corporations around the country are ready to dump hundreds of millions of dollars into the 2012 election in an attempt to fill the seats of power with politicians who will do their bidding. But it doesn't have to be that way: Citizens can send a message to corporations that our democracy is not for sale. Sign our petition to the 500 largest corporations telling them to refrain from political spending. We can't wait for politicians to take action to fix our broken political system. We can, however, start to limit the corrosive influence of special interest money by telling corporations to stick to business, or else they won't get our business. Take Action We, the undersigned, ask that your corporation refrain from making political contributions from your general treasury to influence the 2012 elections (including contributions to independent expenditure committees, trade associations or other tax exempt organizations that will use the money for political purposes). These political contributions are too often used to support candidates, issues and activities that are contrary to the publicly stated values, policies and practices of your company, its employees, its shareholders and its customers. Democracy cannot function when the voices of ordinary citizens are drowned out by a flood of special interest money. Customers expect more from corporations today. Corporations should stick to business and not invest in political campaigns. You will receive an email confirming that your message was sent.
