Get Corporate Money Out of Our Democracy!
Common Cause member BJ Dinto at a January 19th march in Hartford
Two years ago, in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, a bitterly divided Supreme Court overturned a century of established precedent by ruling that corporate spending on candidate elections cannot be limited under the First Amendment. In so doing, Justices Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Kennedy declared that corporations are indistinguishable from people with respect to federal law and the U.S. Constitution.
We cannot afford to let big corporations with vast amounts of wealth decide who will represent us, the people of America. Join us as we raise our voices around Connecticut to get corporate money out of our democracy!

We, the people, must let our state and federal leaders know that a democracy that is of the people, by the people and for the people cannot be sustained on corporate profits.

The destruction or defacement by city police and/or clean-up crews of at least part of the "Occupy Wall Street" library in Zuccotti Park is unacceptable. Those responsible, from the cops and sanitation workers directly involved to whoever in the bureaucracy or the Mayor's office ordered the library trashed or refused to step in and stop it, should be disciplined.

- After the dust settles from the upcoming election, come join us for lunch on Saturday, November 6th for a lively discussion of what it all means to you.
Helping you understand the election results and its impact on policies you care about are three well-known legislative observers:
1. Laura Leslie, WUNC legislative reporter
2. Chris Fitzsimon, author of the daily Fitzsimon File and executive director of NC Policy Watch
3. Dean Debnam, executive director of Public Policy Polling
Get their take on the elections—and ask them how the new North Carolina Legislature affects your interests. Also, we will have special luncheon guest speaker, Ken Lewis—a former statewide U.S. Senate candidate.
Please join us at the NC State Faculty Club (4200 Hillsborough Street) in Raleigh at 11:00am on November 6. RSVP today at http://www.commoncause.org/NC/Election2010WrapUp.
