Don't Let Verizon and Google Set the Rules for Net Neutrality Verizon and Google announced this week that they have it all figured out when it comes to the future of the Internet. They unveiled a policy framework that would give telecom companies the right to speed up or slow down certain kinds of content, and to block outright applications or content on wireless networks. That’s the opposite of net neutrality, the longstanding principle that Internet service providers shouldn’t interfere with content or services on the web. What’s more, we cannot allow profit-hungry corporations to decide the rules and regulations that govern their behavior. Please join Common Cause in telling the FCC to say “thanks, but no thanks” to the Verizon/Google plan, and ask them to act immediately to enact strong net neutrality rules. Subject:* Dear (recipient name), Verizon and Google have unveiled a framework for net neutrality policy that would harm the openness and freedom that have led to the tremendous growth of the Internet. I strongly urge you to reject this plan, and to the listen to the voices of me and millions of consumers who are demanding strong net neutrality protections. Today the Internet serves as our "town square" – where we talk to one another, exchange views, find information from many diverse sources of news and opinion, blog, contact candidates, and engage in our democracy. We must make certain that telecom companies cannot block or impede our access to the tools that have enabled the (small-d) democratic culture of the web. Please use your power to enact robust net neutrality protections immediately. Thank you. You will receive an email confirming that your message was sent.
