Rey López-Calderón is the executive director of Common Cause Illinois.
Prior to working with Common Cause, Rey López-Calderón was an organizer with the Gamaliel Foundation, where he founded Alianza Leadership institute, a unique Latino organizing institute. He also launched Alliance of the Southeast, a faith-based, social-justice organization that brings together African-Americans and Latinos on the south side of Chicago.
In addition to his work in community organizing, he has been a union organizer, a political consultant, education consultant, and a strategic planner. He has served on several boards including the Alliance of Latinos and Jews, Latino Union, and the South Chicago Arts Center.
López-Calderón studied philosophy at the University of Chicago where he was graduated with General Honors and received the Alumni Association’s medal for outstanding student leadership as a founder of the first chapter of Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) in Illinois.
