Lauren Coletta is director of international programs at Common Cause. She previously served as the national campaign director for Common Cause and later led a special media reform initiative that resulted in the founding of the Media and Democracy Coalition. She has twenty years of advocacy experience and has led successful efforts to pass public interest legislation at the local, state and federal levels. Her international work includes collaborations in Czech Republic, Bosnia Herzegovina, Egypt, El Salvador, Ghana, Hungary, India, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Peru, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Tunisia and Turkey. She is a frequent speaker on government transparency and advocacy issues in the United States and abroad.
Prior to joining Common Cause in 2001, Lauren served as executive director of the Citizens Information Service of Illinois, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization dedicated to informed citizen participation. Lauren began her career as a grassroots organizer in Chicago working on local crime and housing issues as well as state wide legislative matters. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and master’s degree in urban planning and public policy from the University of Illinois.
