On April 26th The Governing Board of Common Cause held the 2009 Democracy Awards Celebration

At the home of Pamela Tremayne and Ted Heintz.

This year we honored former Public Service Commissioner

Angela Speir Phelps with the 2009 Democracy Award.

The following people received our Outstanding Citizen Awards:

Sy Liebmann & Lynne Moscow of Atlanta, for their long years of advocacy work in the City of Atlanta Neighborhood Planning Unit process.

Russell Blythe and Melissa Howard of Atlanta, for their dedication of several years to win justice and reform in the Georgia State Prison System.

David and Mindy Egan of Jekyll Island, for their leadership and dedication in keeping the Jekyll Island Authority accountable to its stated mission.

Sam Rawls of Columbus, for his civic leadership in Columbus, and role as founding president of Common Cause Columbus chapter.

Fletcher Thompson of Cobb County, for standing up against the Cobb Energy group who had taken over the publicly owned Cobb EMC

James “Red” Moore of Atlanta, a former baseball player with the historic Atlanta Crackers Red, is being honored for his long service in the community.
