Corporations Aren't People. Ban Corporate Campaign Spending.

Thanks to the Supreme Court, big corporations and billionaires are spending obscene amounts of money to drown out our voices in elections and take over our government. "We the People" can set things right.

The Democracy Amendment Coalition of Massachusetts, led by Common Cause Massachusetts, Move to Amend, and others, is working to make the voices of Massachusetts voters heard on the issue of wealthy interests bankrolling our elections. Together we will put the Democracy Amendment Question on the 2012 ballot, which will allow voters to send a unified message to our elected officials that we want a Constitutional amendment affirming that (1) corporations are not entitled to the constitutional rights of human beings, and (2) both Congress and the States may place limits on political contributions and spending.

Massachusetts one of the Top 10 States with Strong Anti-Corruption Laws

Massachusetts placed 10th in the class of State Corruption Report Cards in a report released by the Center for Public Integrity, Public Radio International and Global Integrity. While nationwide this would be considered doing well, we know that our state deserves to be the valedictorian in government transparency and accountability.

Pam Wilmot, Massachusetts Common Cause executive director was interviewed for the State Integrity summary report. Voicing her support of the Office of Campaign and Political Finance, Wilmot said “They do audit the efficacy of the filings. They believe in the law.  They are professionals.”

As Massachusetts aims for perfection, we need you to contact your legislators! Issues as important as these deserve to be repeated loudly to our representatives. Our big three are Senate Bills #304 and #305, which end political finance loopholes, and Senate Bill #772, which rejects the Citizens United decision.
