Welcome to Common Cause Utah
Hands off GRAMA!
Fixing Utah's Open Records Law
Common Cause Utah fought hard for the repeal of House Bill 477, which would have rolled back Utah’s open records law – the Government Records Access and Management Act. Common Cause Utah championed GRAMA back in 1990 to ensure that citizens knew who their elected officials were meeting with and what work they were doing on voters’ behalf. We called on the legislature to entirely repeal this assault on open government - and we were successful. Read more about it on CommonBlog.
Restoring Checks & Balances
The legislature severely curtailed citizens' ability to act as a check and balance on their own power by repealing laws voters don’t approve of through petitioning to place referendums on the ballot. Indeed, citizens have filed a petition to repeal the attack on open records law, but the legislature has made this much too burdensome.
Ethics in Government
Holding Power Accountable
We support the Utahns for Ethical Government initiative and call on the Courts and the Lieutenant Governor to honor the will of more than 120,000 voters who have signed a petition to place this proposal on the November 2012 ballot.
