Common Cause Tennessee

Common Cause Tennessee is a non-profit, non-partisan citizens' lobby organization.  We believe that by banding together, citizens can make a difference.  We throw a spotlight on issues that affect all Tennesseans.  We work to strengthen public participation and to ensure that the political process serves the public interest, rather than the special interests.  Our purpose is clear: make public officials and public institutions accountable and responsive to citizens.

Common Cause Tennessee is continuing to grow and develop under the guidance of Chairman Dick Williams and a dedicated group of volunteers.  Please check back often for important news that affects Tennesseans personally, information on how you can get involved in citizen advocacy, and what Common Cause Tennessee is focusing on currently. 



On January 18, 2012 Common Cause launched its Amend 2012 campaign to generate grassroots support and action for a constitutional amendment to reverse Citizens United. Here’s how you can help.

An open letter to members and supporters of Common Cause Tennessee as well as citizens of Tennessee concerned about similar issues:


Here at the start of 2012 I have found myself having more and more substantive political discussions than ever before. While these occasionally turn to debates rooted in party politics and ideological differences, they most often reflect a deeper concern for the power of the people to determine their own course here in America. Increasingly the idea of self determination has come under assault from our elected officials who try to pass restrictive voting laws to serve their own ends, our courts which grant personhood to corporations so they may influence elections, and even large segments of the people themselves who remain apathetic despite coming under attack from those who would deny them an equal voice in government.  more...
