Election Reform

DC Voting Rights

The nearly 600,000 Americans living in the District of Columbia have had no representation in Congress since 1801.  Common Cause strongly supports legislation that would provide the District with a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives (along with an additional seat that would go to Utah until the next reapportionment).

The DC Voting Rights Act passed the House in 2008 with a 241-vote majority, and garnered 57 votes in the Senate, but failed to get cloture.  With majority support in both the House and Senate, we expect passage in 2009.
