Tell Congress We Want Meaningful Election Reform
In 2000, we endured a chaotic election with a disputed outcome. In 2004, more than 60,000 absentee ballots were never delivered, thousands of provisional ballots were not counted, voting machines malfunctioned in locations across the country, voters found they were inexplicably removed from the voter rolls, and voters in some states endured lines lasting for hours in order to cast their votes.
This is no way to run an election system.
It’s time for Congress to step up to the plate and fix the broken system. Voters must be able to trust that their votes will be counted and that the election will be fair, open to all qualified citizens, and auditable. We must be able to feel confident that machine manufacturers and election officials answer to no interests except those of the voters.
America’s democracy hangs in the balance.
We the undersigned call on our congressional leaders to enact election reform legislation that will lead to open, fair, and accurate elections.
