Georgia needs redistricting reform in place before the 2010 census

Georgia needs an independent, open and transparent commission to draw legislative districts, and put an end to political gerrymandering

Partisan redistricting makes legislators less accountable to the people and more accountable to their party. "The people should pick their legislators, not the other way around," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "You can’t take politics out of politics, but an independent commission would come closer."

Common Cause Georgia supports Governor Perdue's recommendation for an independent redistricting commission that would help ensure fairly drawn districts and improve public faith in the elective process.
