This Common Cause Massachusetts report reads, in part, 'In April 2013, Common Cause Massachusetts? Plea for a Pledge: Outside Spending in Competitive 2012 U.S. Senate Races report documented the positive effects of the People's Pledge in the 2012 Warren-Brown U.S. Senate race. The candidate brokered agreement instituted a fine whenever outside groups ran ads on either candidate's behalf. By reducing outside spending, the People's Pledge fostered greater electoral transparency, accountability and fairness.'

This factsheet put on by Common Cause Massachusetts explains the Massachusetts Disclosure Act. It reads, in part, 'Corporations, organizations, and individuals are secretly influencing the outcome of our elections by evading our state disclosure laws for spending in elections. Inadequate disclosure of political spending makes it more difficult for voters to make in-formed decisions, increases opportunities for corruption, and limits shareholders' and customers' ability to hold corporations accountable.'
