This Common Cause Maryland testimony begins, 'Common Cause Maryland supports SB 279, which would expand early voting and allow citizens to register to vote at polling centers. Taken together, these two elements are a critical combination for increasing voter participation in elections. Early voting is proven and popular ? but that measure alone does not guarantee new voters in the process. States that combine same day registration with early voting lead the nation in voter turnout. It is a critical combination.'

Today the Maryland legislature voted to protect every Americans’ constitutional rights by rescinding its calls for a dangerous Article V constitutional convention. State lawmakers cited the threat of a “runaway convention,” which could result in major changes to the U.S. Constitution and its protections in a process bankrolled by special interests.
