Statement by Common Cause President Miles Rapoport on Today's Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing

The Senate majority’s refusal to even consider President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee is an appalling gesture of contempt for the court, the Constitution, and the American people. More than 50,000 people have used SenateDoYourJob.org to call on their senators to give the President’s nominee a hearing and a vote; every poll shows growing public support for President Obama to fill this vacancy in the 10-plus months remaining in his term. The President is doing his job and Americans expect senators to do theirs. In any other workplace, employees who so cavalierly shunned their duties would be fired.
