Public Confidence in Election Integrity Important; Statement of Susannah Goodman, Director of Voting Integrity

Common Cause supports reviewing election results and the right of candidates and others to call for recounts.  The recount process is critical to adding necessary transparency to the election process, identifying problems, and increasing voter  confidence in the election outcome.

Common Cause supports an election system where all voters have access to the ballot box and cast paper ballots which are reviewed by the voters themselves before casting. We also  support mandatory post-election audits and encourage states to adopt risk-limiting audits.  A risk limiting audit  can, with a high degree of certainty, detect outcome changing errors.
