For Immediate Release Beshear Order "A Service to Democracy"

Statement by Richard Beliles, State Chair, Common Cause Kentucky

Posted on November 24, 2015

"Steve Beshear is ending his service as governor with a service to democracy. His executive order restoring the voting rights of tens of thousands of Kentuckians who have completed their sentences for non-violent offenses will be welcomed by every fair-minded citizen and will encourage ex-offenders to take on the responsibilities of good citizenship.

We urge Gov.-elect Bevin to endorse and vigorously implement Gov. Beshear’s initiative. We hope that Sen. Rand Paul, who has testified in support of restoring the rights of ex-offenders, will use his influence with the governor-elect and his fellow Republicans in the state legislature to see that this order has bi-partisan support."
