For Immediate Release Brinkley Serkedakis Named Executive Director of Common Cause Georgia

Brinkley Serkedakis

Common Cause welcomed Brinkley Serkedakis to Common Cause Georgia today, as our new executive director based in Atlanta.

Serkedakis takes over the leadership of the Georgia office and will implement policy, advocacy, communications and fundraising strategies to build support for the Common Cause agenda at the state and national levels. She joins a team of dedicated leaders across the country working to hold power accountable, no matter who holds it; and create a democracy that works for every Georgian and every American.

“After years of working in public policy, politics, and non-profit advocacy, I’ve seen the challenges facing our democracy from the inside. And like many others who’ve participated in the system, I want to work to change it – it isn’t serving everyday Georgians as it should,” Serkedakis said.

“From barriers created by excessive money in politics to obstacles voters face in simply trying to register to make their voices heard, it’s time to hit the reset button on our democracy. We must remember that self-governance means we all have a voice and a vote – not just wealthy special interests or those who favor partisan polarization,” she added.

Before joining Common Cause, Serkedakis directed national events for CARE USA, an international non-governmental organization fighting global poverty.  Previously, she was an associate campaign director at Coxe Curry & Associates, Atlanta’s oldest and largest non-profit fundraising consulting firm, and served as director of development and communications at Georgia Appleseed, a public interest law center working to increase justice in Georgia through law and policy reform.

“We are thrilled to bring in a proven leader who can build a strong organization in Common Cause Georgia,” said Jon Sinton, past state board chair and board member.

“Common Cause Georgia is working to build a stronger, more inclusive democracy where all eligible voters can rightfully access their ballot and elected leaders are held to the highest ethical standards.  We’re proud to continue that work with our new executive director,” said Atlanta attorney Emmet Bondurant, a Common Cause national governing board member.

Serkedakis has extensive political experience, having worked for Govs.  Bev Perdue and Roy Barnes, as well as in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and the Democratic Governors Association.

Common Cause is a nonpartisan grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy. We work to create open, honest, and accountable government that serves the public interest; promote equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all; and empower all people to make their voices heard in the political process.
