Common Cause Massachusetts Testimony in Support of H. 573, H. 2830

May 16, 2013

This testimony from Common Cause Massachusetts begins, 'Currently officials who fail to file a campaign finance report are unable to run for reelection in a state race. Section 3 of chapter 55 prohibits their name from appearing on the ballot and their names can't even be written-in. However, the existing law does not apply to municipal elections. Local government officials are required by law to submit campaign finance reports but if they refuse to do so, there is no recourse similar to the one provided by c. 55 sec 3. I urge you to support H. 583 and H. 2830 which rectify this omission.'
