Re: Vote For Leahy-Cornyn Amendment 1483 to STOCK Act To Close Loopholes in Anti-Corruption Laws

Dear Senator:

Our organizations strongly urge you to vote for the Leahy-Cornyn "Public Corruption Prosecution Improvements Act." which will be offered as amendment 1493 to S. 2038, the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act (STOCK Act).

The organizations include: the Campaign Legal Center, Common Cause, Democracy 21, and the League of Women Voters.

The bipartisan Leahy-Cornyn bill closes serious loopholes in the nation's anti-corruption laws that have made it much more difficult to investigate and prosecute corruption by public officials. The legislation fixes the federal gratuities statute and the honest services fraud statute to restore their ability to be used as effective laws to prevent corruption by public officials.

Companion bi-partisan legislation introduced in the House by Representatives James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Mike Quigley (D-IL) has been reported out unanimously by the House Judiciary Committee.

Our groups strongly urge you to vote for the Leahy-Cornyn amendment to the STOCK Act.
