Redistricting and Representation

Cambridge, MA

You are cordially invited to join the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation for a day-long conference on gerrymandering, redistricting, and the fight for American democracy. As the Supreme Court prepares to hand down its decision in the most important case on political gerrymandering in a generation, join us for a convening of scholars, practitioners, and activists from around the country, as we seek to understand a path forward on redistricting reform. Our panelists will provide unique insight into the history of gerrymandering, the role of race in redistricting, the current crisis of the Census, and examine the landscape for reform.

We also invite you to join us later in the evening on November 8th for a discussion entitled "Redistricting and Representation" at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The conference is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. You can register and receive a ticket via Eventbrite.

Redistricting Reform: A Discussion Panel About Indiana Gerrymandering

Indianapolis, IN

Redistricting benefits everyone -- not just the party in power.

For the 2014 mid-term elections only 28% of Hoosiers turned out to vote earning us the "honor" of having the lowest voter turnout in the nation. Many of our state legislative races are decided in the primary elections and only one candidate appears on the November ballot. This is not good for our state. Join us for a lively debate to learn why competitive races are critical for the heath of our democracy. Learn how we can make the system work the right way!

Featured Speaker: Chrystal Ratcliffe, President of Women of the NAACP Local Chapter 3053

Moderator: John Krull, Director of the Pullman School of Journalism, Professor of Journalism at Franklin College and host of WFYI's "No Limits"

Panelists:
-Paul Helmke, Former Mayor of Fort Wayne
-Luis Fruentes Rohwe, Professor at Maurer School of Law
-Julia Vaughn, Executive Director of Common Cause Indiana
