In 2010, Common Cause Minnesota discovered that Minneapolis-based Target had spent $150,000 in support of a gubernatorial candidate whose opposition to marriage equality was in conflict with the company's position on that issue.

Common Cause led a national campaign to push Target executives to swear off future political contributions, pointing out that the value of Target stock dropped dramatically in the wake of negative publicity growing out of its spending in Minnesota.
