It's no accident that the economic gap between the richest 1% of Americans and everyone else is larger than at any time since the 1920s. Public policies bought with campaign contributions and big money lobbying helped create this inequality. New policies can help fix it.
Common Cause is working to:
- Limit the runaway political spending that lets big money dominate our elections and major donors set the direction of our economy
- Expose ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, the corporate backed lobby that masquerades as a charity while secretly advancing policies that put private profit ahead of the public interest in economic fairness
- Fix the filibuster, so a well-funded minority can no longer block minimum wage increases, financial industry regulations and other economic reforms that enjoy majority support
- Protect and strengthen voting rights, so every voice is heard on Election Day, the one day that every citizen has an equal say in our country's future
