'Our Children Are Showing Us...'

Statement by Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn

Students marching in Washington on gun violence

As students from middle school to college demonstrated on campuses, statehouses, at the U.S. Capitol, and in other forums today, Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn urged them to stay engaged in our democracy.

"Today’s outpouring of student activism is the most encouraging sign in years about the future of American democracy. Across the country, our children are showing us what really makes America great: citizens standing up and making themselves heard to change things for the better. I hope each of them builds on today’s events by registering to vote as soon they can and then staying engaged in the important work of citizenship. We would all do well to follow their example."
