Fighting Citizens United in Arkansas
Arkansans have taken a huge step forward in the fight against the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision and the unchecked flow of money that came with it.
Common Cause, Free Speech For People, Public Citizen, and state group Regnat Populus released a joint statement yesterday calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, and proposing a ballot initiative that would restrict corporate money in elections in Arkansas and help reclaim our democracy from special interests.
Next up, we’ll be working with the Arkansas Attorney General to have the language approved — then its off to gather the 70,000-plus signatures needed to place the initiative on the 2014 ballot, so that Arkansas can join the 16 other states already on record calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
