It’s a challenge to pick the worst of the furnace-hot verbiage spewing forth from the new Administration; there is just so much to choose from. But to me, one completely frightening statement stands out. It is “deconstructing the administrative state” as the stated purpose of the Trump team. If this statement doesn’t motivate citizens to action, what will?

Special Prosecutor Needed to Investigate Russian Election Interference

There were troubling signs that some Republican committee members of the House Intelligence Committee had difficulty rising above partisanship to fairly and impartially investigate the direct attack on our democracy by the Russian government during the 2016 presidential race. The partisan protection of the Trump Administration today demonstrates the clear need for a special prosecutor or independent commission to fully investigate the extensive campaign by the Russian government to help elect Donald Trump as President of the United States.

Common Cause Urges Senate to Oppose House Bill 515’s Racial Gerrymander & Exposure to Voting Rights Litigation

Today, Common Cause Georgia urged the state Senate to oppose House bill 515, a gerrymandering proposal dropped at the end of session on short notice and cleared through committee in minutes without public comment. The letter to Senate leadership emphasizes that significant numbers of Black voters would be packed into legislative districts with “safe” seats – thereby diluting their voting power to elect candidates of their choice - in order to move new white voters into Republican legislative districts that were carried by Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the presidential election.
