Rod Bauer

Fellow, Media and Democracy


Rod Bauer is a Ford-Mozilla Fellow with Common Cause. He works on Media and Democracy issues and is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to joining Common Cause, Rod worked for and consulted to high-tech companies, including Microsoft, Apple, Autodesk, Adobe, and numerous startups. Rod has contributed to digital campaign strategies and worked with the White House on open source software issues. Rod is active in food and wine businesses and recently was adjunct faculty at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in the Napa Valley. Rod studied at Reed College, U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Davis, the University of Washington, and the Università per Stranieri di Perugia in Italy. Rod has a A.B. in comparative literature from U.C. Berkeley.
