ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Common Cause seeks a Regional Redistricting and Programs Manager to work with national and state staff and key organizational partners to promote redistricting and democracy reforms across the country. The Regional Redistricting and Programs Manager will be responsible for research, policy analysis, communications, advocacy, litigation, coalition building, and any other activities that promote redistricting reform and the Common Cause agenda.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy Research and Analysis

  • Work in coordination with the National Redistricting Director and National Redistricting Manager on Supreme Court and state cases, to promote fair redistricting.
  • Responsible for supporting and enhancing the efforts of our state organizations and allies in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions, to promote redistricting reforms, including reviewing or drafting proposed legislation, ballot measures, educational and research materials.
  • Collaborate with key state and national organizational leaders to develop shared strategies to advance redistricting, voting, and other Common Cause reforms.
  • Coordinate national meetings to showcase areas for collaborative and successful redistricting reforms.
  • Work on broad democracy policy issues as needed, including redistricting, voting rights, campaign finance reform, ethics, and census, among others.

Program and Organizational

  • Assist state staff and allies at the local level to develop effective, winnable policy reforms and advocate for their passage and implementation.
  • Provide advice and support for Common Cause state redistricting work, including helping with education, outreach and communications support; and facilitating meetings.
  • Work in coordination with national and state teams to develop and implement grassroots organizing strategies with Common Cause members and to build support for the Common Cause agenda.
  • Work to build and participate in effective and diverse political and civic coalitions.
  • Serve as Common Cause’s spokesperson and communicate with the public and members across the state, through the media, social media, and other channels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to advancing the Common Cause agenda and mission, including nonpartisanship.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizing ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a desire to build upon current assets to expand a strong state operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with volunteer boards, staff, including state and national staff, and members.
  • Organizational leadership experience. Seven or more years management experience, including nonprofit organizations, preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, including the ability to work effectively with those belonging to groups of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, age and socioeconomic status.
  • Familiarity with broad democracy policies and the state legislative process. Experience working on redistricting and voting rights issues is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the traditional and new media.
  • Commitment to advancing racial equity through our democracy agenda.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and build alliances among diverse communities and stakeholders, including but not limited to people of color, people of diverse political affiliations, business leaders, young people, and members of the faith community.
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility occasionally to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position will be based in the Mid-Atlantic region, ideally in Harrisburg, PA.
