Working as part of the Common Cause Communications Department, this position is responsible for coordinating communications strategies and support in western states to assist their strategic communications and media needs; working as part of communications department keeping the team informed on upcoming opportunities and trends emerging from the west region; and working with state staff to increase capacity around communications functions. Additionally, this position is responsible for working on communications around redistricting, in the states and nationally.
Based in the Los Angeles office, this position works directly with national staff responsible for coordinating state activities, state executive directors or communications staff where applicable, state-based media, and other communications staff to coordinate and maximize exposure for media stories. This position will be directly responsible for working on communication strategies to amplify the Common Cause work in California (30%), and other western states (40%): Colorado, Oregon, Hawaii, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas. Additionally, this position will work with redistricting staff (30%) to create national trend stories and amplify state and local level work in redistricting, including creating content or coordinating content across multiple platforms. This work may include coordination of media efforts outside the western region. Work closely with national and state policy staff, state coordinators, and digital staff providing overall communications support to each state organization.
Experience in media relations; strong writing and editing skills; high energy level; knowledge of congressional or state legislative operations and political campaigns preferred; interest and commitment to advancing public interest reforms; ability to work in close collaboration with others, but also independently, and with remote management and colleagues; demonstrated ability to work under pressure and perform a variety of tasks; well organized and attentive to detail.
