ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Common Cause is seeking an accomplished, strategic, and collaborative organizer to assist in our efforts to build a stronger, more diverse base throughout the Midwest that will build on our victories and ensure that we are furthering the cause of justice by holding power accountable.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •     Collaborate with the Midwest Organizing Director and Common Cause state executive directors to develop, strengthen, and maintain a grassroots organizing network across the Midwest.
  •     Recruit and develop diverse leadership of grassroots members, especially youth and people living in low-income communities and communities of color.
  •     Implement engagement plans for priority multi-year campaigns in Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
  •     Build coalition support, organize members, and educate the public on democracy issues, prioritizing voting rights, and redistricting reform.
  •     Quickly coordinate in-person events at the speed of the news cycle that may include petition deliveries, stand-up news conferences, and other creative actions that earn media attention.
  •     Collaborate with Common Cause state executive directors to write, edit, and send digital communications (email, social media and web) that mobilize hundreds of thousands of constituents in the Midwest to participate in our campaigns.
  •     Stay abreast of legislative and organizational developments throughout the region, building and maintaining relationships with key Congressional and state targets.
  •     Develop and write public outreach materials including factsheets, action alerts, presentations, and online updates.
  •     Assist with regional fundraising for our organizing campaigns in coordination with the Midwest Organizing Director and state executive directors.
  •     This position is based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, but will require travel to other Midwestern states.                                                   

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, leadership, attention to detail, organization, time management, and problem-solving abilities.

  •     A love for policy and politics and the desire to move political reforms and economic justice.
  •     Ability to build strong relationships with a wide array of partners and members.
  •     A track record of successful coalitional organizing.
  •     Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  •     Ability to multi-task and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  •     General understanding of the political landscape and policy trends in Midwestern states.
  •     Working knowledge of statewide democracy issues, including redistricting, voting rights, money in politics, and more.
  •     Experience as a community organizer working in low-income communities, communities of color and/or youth.
  •     Ability to travel extensively and overnight throughout the Midwest region.
  •     Willingness to work flexible hours—including occasional weeknights and weekends.
  •     At least 3-4 years of experience in organizing, advocacy, or grassroots education.
  •     Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and current social media platforms required. Action Network (or similar website and advocacy management program) mastery is a plus.
  •     Bilingual preferred.

TRANSPORTATION:

Candidate must have access to a vehicle to travel to sites. As the position requires operating a motor vehicle as part of the job duties, a valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check is required in addition to standard background checks. Common Cause reimburses for personal vehicle use as part of job duties.
